Handicrafts
Traditional hand-made items can be purchased from Souvenir Shops, found in every
corner of the island.
For visitors who are interested to see how
these items are made is the Cyprus Handicraft Centre in Nicosia the right address.
Craftsmen in the workshops demonstrate the art of weaving, basket-making, woodcarving, the
production of leather goods, pottery and copper items.
Whatever is produced here can be
purchased at the shop of the centre.
Similar work shops can be found at Laiki
Geitonia in Nicosia, and all other major towns where craftsmen still manufacture art and
craft work in the way they have done since centuries.
Market Halls
A tour through one of the city's market halls with their busy and varied bustle
is a must. Especially the markets of Limassol and Paphos are genuine attractions. In
Limassol one can find an enormous variety of goods while the market of Paphos is more of a
rural market where the farmers, sometimes the village priest offer chicken, eggs,
vegetables and fruits. It is exciting to watch the locals how they inspect the goods,
bargain and chat.
