Amateur Fishing
Spear-fishing, angling, fishing with vertical lines or trolling (long lining with maximum
one hundred hooks and with up to three fish traps), are the permitted fishing methods.
Fishing with nets and with any other commercial methods, is not allowed. Species of fish
which can be caught: sea-breams, groupers, amber jacks, sea-perch etc.

Angling in Dams
Special licences must be obtained to be permitted to angle in dams from the Head Office of
Fisheries Department, in Nicosia or from the District Offices of Fisheries Department.
Licences are personal and are issued to persons over 12 years old.
The fee is CYP 3,00 for each dam separately and CYP 10,00 for all dams. All licences
issued for the current year. Also group licences can be obtained which are valid for 14
days and the fee is CYP 1,00 per person.
Licences are valid only when the dam is declared open by the Director of the Department of
Fisheries.
The Fisheries Department sells, at CYP 1,00 each, a booklet with
coloured pictures of all fish found in the reservoirs and useful information to the

The dams are stocked with 17 species of fish. The most popular are: Trout, largemouth
bass, carp, Tikeperch, Roach, etc. Sixteen dams in Cyprus provide excellent fresh-water

Bird Watching
In spring and autumn, Cyprus offers, due to the island's geographical position, an
excellent opportunity to bird-lovers and bird-watchers to observe the birds on their
passage.
Monthly Field -Meetings of the Cyprus Ornithological Federation
Every month the Ornithological Society organises a field meeting. The dates are announced
in the local media.
The field meeting involves walks, tours, studying the Cyprus Fauna and Flora and in some
occasions ringing birds.
The Annual General Meeting of the Society takes place in April in the countryside at the
magnificent site of the Medieval Monastery of Profitis Elias near Lythrodontas.

Discover the island on a bike!
A most exciting way to enjoy the benefits of cycling in combination with the pleasures of
admiring, and exploring the landscape. 
Cyprus is a natural mountain-biking place offering many opportunities
for exciting mountain-biking in different tracks. A paradise for the fans
of this sport.
Due to the excellent weather conditions prevailing on the island, both sports can be
enjoyed almost throughout the year.
Bicycles can be hired in all towns and sea-side resorts for approx. CYP 2,00 per bike and

Various contests take place during the spring and autumn period. No special qualifications
are required for participants. Local and international road races and mountain bike races
are organised regularly. Responsible for all events is the Cyprus Cycling Federation (CCF)
who issues and distributes an annual activities programme every year at end of January.

Golf
Two Golf Clubs are available to visitors who enjoy this sport.
Tsada Golf Club
The club is situated near Tsada village 15 minutes drive north of Pafos
town.
It is an 18 hole course, Par 72, all greens and the total length is 6.050 m.
The Secret Valley Golf Club
The new Secret Valley 18 hole golf course was completed in 1996. Situated 18 km east of
Pafos and 49 km from Limassol, near "Petra tou Romiou" it will play to a per 72
and measures 6.300 m.

Hiking
The numerous unspoilt areas in Cyprus offer unforgettable hiking experiences to nature
friends. Special hiking excursions can be organised by the sightseeing tour operators.
The Forestry Department in co-operation with the Cyprus Tourism Organisation have put
great effort in the development of nature trails and opened around 30 of those till today.

Kaimakli Bus and Walking Tour
every Monday (Participation is free)
This two hour bus-and-walking tour of the area of Kaimakli, one of the oldest suburbs
of Nicosia is organised by the Nicosia Municipality, and starts every Monday, at 10.00 hrs
from the Cyprus Tourist Information Office in Laiki Geitonia.
The tour is quite exceptional as it includes a free bus ride along Kaimakli's demarkation
line, passes by the old railway station, an old flour-mill and stops near the suburb's
centre. Visitors walk around the old neighbourhoods dating back to the beginning of the
century.
Nicosia Walking Tour
every Thursday (Participation is free)
The two hours walking tour of Nicosia starts every Thursday at 10.00 hrs, from the
Cyprus Tourist Information Office in Laiki Geitonia (east of Plateia Eleftherias). The
tour organised by the Nicosia Municipality, gives the chance to all visitors to get
acquainted with the old character of the city.

Snow-Skiing
From the beginning of January
to the end of March is the season for snow-skiing in Cyprus.
That time of the year conditions are excellent on the slopes of Mount Olympos (1.951 m
above sea level) and organised races for young and old take place.
The slopes are equipped with four ski lifts. Two located on the north
face with 350 m and 500 m length and two situated south of the mountain at sun valley with
150 m length each.Skiing equipment can be hired at the Ski Club.
